Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder characterized by frequent interruptions in breathing during sleep, which can significantly impact overall health. The most common type, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), occurs when the muscles at the back of the throat relax too much, temporarily blocking the airway. Central sleep apnea, a less common form, happens when the brain fails to send the proper signals to the muscles that control breathing. Complex sleep apnea combines features of both obstructive and central sleep apnea. These breathing pauses can last for seconds to minutes and may occur hundreds of times per night, leading to poor sleep quality, excessive daytime fatigue, and an increased risk of other health problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke. Symptoms often include loud snoring, choking or gasping during sleep, and chronic fatigue.
